My Agenda vs. God's Agenda

“Don’t brashly announce what you’re going to do tomorrow; you don’t know the first thing about tomorrow.” (Proverbs 27:1 The Message)

The above was the first thing I read this morning. I try to read through the Proverbs at least once a year and in different English versions. I thought, “God, is my agenda and what I have to do today more important or, maybe more lucid, a higher priority than what your agenda is for my life?”

If we were honest, we would declare that each of us do not even know what is going to happen in the next second. Ask anyone who has lost someone in a tragic accident where just a mere second would have made the difference between life and death. Your life can turn on a dime!

So, let me get to the thesis… Are you using every second to count for your LORD? Is life about you or is it about Him?

Solomon’s proverb isn’t the only place that deals with our mixed-up priorities in regard to the use of time. James states it this way, “And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, ‘Today – at the latest, tomorrow – we’re off to such and such a city for the year. We’re going to start a business and make a lot of money.’ You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, ‘If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.’ As it is, you are full of your grandiose selves. All such vaunting self-importance is evil.” (James 4:13-16 The Message)

I really never thought years ago, that what I wanted to do (this means every thought we think and every decision we make) without conferring with Jesus was in some way against His will or even evil. But, there, James says it is. Maybe we ought to reexamine ourselves each day. Are we online with God? Think about it!
